Aleksandra Hamkalo
Aleksandra Hamkało was born on October 19, 1988, in Zielona Góra. She had her first experience with the theater in Łodź at the age of 3, and starred as a child in three Jaracz Theater performances: “Woyzecku,” “The Curse,” and “King Edyp.” Her first film role was the lead in “Awesome Vacation” at the age of 10. She also appeared in a series of Polish sitcoms and in the foreign production “Out of Reach.” During this time she moved from Łodz to Wrocław, where she finished high school. Her first attempt at entry into the prestigious PWST Theatre School ended in disappointment, and Aleksandra started studies at the University of Wrocław instead, making a living playing a small recurring role on the Polish show “First Love. A year later she was accepted into Wrocław’s PWST Theatre School.
In her second year at university, she starred as Karolina in the movie Suicide Room, and by the end of her third year she earned the starring role in the film Big Love which had its premier in February 2012. A few months later she finished her thesis performance, titled “A Dog’s Testament, or the History of Miłosiernia,” which won the main prize at the Student Theatre Festival in Łodz. In September, 2012 she also received the JANTAR Award for best debut performance at the “Young in Film” Festival in Koszalin.
Aleksandra currently lives in Wrocław, and is married.
