Werewolf

Werewolf

(Wilkołak)

Summer of 1945. Eight children who have just survived the Holocaust and were liberated from the Gross-Rosen camp find a refuge in a temporary orphanage established in an abandoned palace surrounded by forests. 20 year old Hanka, also a former inmate, becomes their guardian. After the atrocities of the camp, children slowly begin to regain what is left of their childhood but the horror returns quickly. Bloodthirsty wolfhounds released by the SS earlier on, have gone wild and are starving. Looking for food they besiege the palace. The children are terrified and their camp survival instinct is triggered. Werewolf is beautifully crafted to sustain a grim fairytale atmosphere of isolation and dread. It is a horror story in the purest sense, one in which the monsters are not necessarily what you think. Some prowl on four legs, others on two.
